Tiger Woods’ British Open looks like it will end early.
Woods shot a 6-over 148 over the first two rounds, most of the damage coming on Thursday when his score was an abysmal 78. With the projected cut currently moving between 1 and 2-over, Woods looks to be out of the proceedings.
Woods was sneaking up on the cut life after birdies at 10 and 11 got him to 4-over, but finished with five pars and two bogeys on his final seven holes.
It’s the seventh time in 13 majors since 2014 that Woods has missed the cut. After winning the Masters in April, expectations were reasonably high for Woods this year, but he missed the cut at the PGA Championship, tied for 21st at the US Open last month and then didn’t play again until Thursday.
Upon arrival at Portrush, he said his game wasn’t where it needed to be, and it turned out he was right.
Woods told reporters he plans to take the next couple weeks off and return for the FedEx Cup Playoffs that begin with the Northern Trust Open in the second week of August.
