Jon Jones is making headlines again for the wrong reasons.
On Sunday evening, New Mexico’s KRQE News reported that the UFC light heavyweight champion has been charged with battery stemming from an incident that occurred at a strip club in Albuquerque this past April.
Jones, 32, allegedly slapped an on-duty cocktail waitress at TD’s Eubank Showclub, and also pulled her onto his lap and kissed her neck. The details arose from a call the waitress made to Albuquerque Police from her home.
The alleged victim also claims that Jones picked her up off the ground with a chokehold and that he touched her despite her telling him to stop.
In a statement released to KRQE News, James Hallinan, a spokesperson for Jones, is denying the allegations on behalf of his client and has said that Jones was unaware of the charges until Sunday’s report.
“Today, the media told Mr. Jones about a false accusation launched against him and that paperwork had been sent to an incorrect address,” Hallinan’s statement reads. “However, after receiving the documents from the press, Mr. Jones immediately went to pay the small fee, and he, and multiple witnesses, stand ready to factually refute the malicious lies being told about him to the public.”
Jones reportedly went to Metro Court on Sunday to pay a $300 cash bond. He was not arrested for the incident and upon payment of his bond, his warrant has been lifted.
Jones commented about the reports Monday morning.

ESPN reports that the charge is a petty misdemeanor.
This is not the first time Jones has faced legal issues in New Mexico. In April 2016, Jones pleaded guilty to unlawful use of modification of exhaust systems and improper display of registration plate after being charged with unlawful drag racing, unlawful exhibition driving, and failure to maintain traffic lane (those charges were all thrown out).
In April 2015, Jones was involved in a hit-and-run in Albuquerque, in which Jones was part of a three-vehicle accident that saw him initially flee the scene, return for to collect some money and then leave again. It was later revealed that a pregnant woman suffered minor injuries in the crash. Jones would receive probation for leaving the scene of an accident (a fourth-degree felony) and the UFC stripped him of the light heavyweight title he held at the time as a result of the incident, thus signaling the end of his first championship reign.
Currently in his second reign as undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion, Jones most recently competed on July 6 at UFC 239 where he defeated Thiago Santos by split decision.
