Bengals select Trayveon Williams in Round 6 - Cincy Jungle

With the 182nd pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals have selected Texas A&M Aggies running back Trayveon Williams.

After the team cut Mark Walton this offseason, there was an expectation the team would find a late-round running back this year, and they got a good one in Round 6. Williams was projected as a Round 4 prospect by NFL.com and compared to Jets running back ELijah McGuire.

The SEC rushing champion in 2018, Williams set a single-season school record 1,760 yards with 18 touchdowns. He did so while running behind the offensive line of one Jim Turner, who became the Bengals’ offensive line coach this offseason.

Williams is a very good back when you turn on the tape, but what hurt his NFL stock is his 5-8, 206-pound frame. He’s going to need to bulk up for a year or two before he’s ready for a big NFL workload.

Look for Williams to eventually become the No. 2 back behind Joe Mixon if Giovani Bernard leaves via free agency in 2020. For now, Williams will likely fight for a special teams role and occasional snaps behind the two veterans.

Bengals’ remaining top draft needs are:

DE, LB, WR
