IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence expects a unification with WBA champion, Manny Pacquiao, to happen at some point in 2020.
This Saturday night, Spence will collide in the ring with WBC world champion Shawn Porter, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Back in March, Spence dominated four division world champion Mikey Garcia over twelve rounds. After the fight, he called Pacquiao to the ring and called for a fight between them.
A few months later Pacquiao would turn back the clock when he dropped and decisioned unbeaten Keith Thurman to capture the WBA title.
Should Spence win his bout, it would put the two of them in line to collide in a three title unification.
Pacquiao intends to fight at least twice in 2020, but most insiders do not expect Spence to be his next fight.
“I think I am the best fighter in the welterweight division and in boxing,” Spence told PBC. “This is my time to prove it. Timing is everything. I’m going to get the fights that I need to prove I am the best in the world.
“Getting past Shawn Porter with the performance that I know I can put on against him, and then getting the fight that I want after that and that’s the Manny Pacquiao fight.
“The fight with Manny Pacquiao definitely happens; I think it happens some time next year. Maybe in the middle or the end of next year, but I think it’s definitely going to happen. The fans want it to happen, there’s too much money out there not for it to happen, there’s too many belts on the lines for it not to happen too.”
